Kooka's: Over 30 Years of Experience and History
Over the years Kooka's has been host to many interesting and distinguished guests catered for large corporate events, high profile companies and countless weddings and private functions. Not only do we know how to provide classic and elegant food and service but are also keen to pass on our advice and experience to make your function run smoothly.
Iain is the culinary genius of our team, he started out with a HND in Hotel Management in his birth country, Scotland. He went on to work in Aberdeen Hotels and later as Sous Chef and Head Chef on Cruise Ships and in the North Sea Oil Industry.
Iain and Jo then teamed up to run Minesite Catering Camps for 3 years where they provided thousands of meals per week to hungry miners. Jo organisational skills and background as a recruitment consultant kept everything running smoothly and was a bonus when it came to finding quality staff.
1992 was a landmark year where Jo and Iain purchased Kooka's Restaurant. Hard work, Iain's flair in the kitchen and Jo's ability to create a well organised, relaxed and friendly atmosphere made Kooka's one of the most applauded country restaurant's in Western Australia. During their time at the helm Kooka's won numerous Gold Plate and RCA (Restaurant and Caterer's Association) awards and Iain's reputation as a chef resulted in invitations to judge the CIA's Chef of the Year Competition in 2000 and 2001.
Now all the passion, skills and effort that went into the restaurant is still alive in our Kooka's Catering business. We cater for all sizes of event and bring years of experience, knowledge, advice and the famous Kooka's history into every function we cater for.
Framed by the Albany Justice and Police Complex, the old heritage-listed Kooka's building still stands today as the oldest two-story building from the early settlement days of Albany. Kooka's Restaurant is no longer but the passion and flair that made it famous lives on in Kooka's Catering.
For many years Kooka's Restaurant was known as $quot;the place to dine$quot; in Albany. The team worked hard to make sure Kooka's was a place where guests experienced the best in food, 5 star service and a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Kooka's won the prestigious Gold Plate Award for 'Best Unliscenced Dinning' three years in a row and was a finalist nine times. It also won an RCA (Restaurant and Caterer's Association) award for excellence for the Best Country Restaurant and was finalist in this category seven times.
