ExperienceIain is the culinary genius of our team, he started out with a HND in Hotel Management in his birth country, Scotland. He went on to work in Aberdeen Hotels and later as Sous Chef and Head Chef on Cruise Ships and in the North Sea Oil Industry.
Kooka's Restaurant1992 was a landmark year where Jo and Iain purchased Kooka's Restaurant. Hard work, Iain's flair in the kitchen and Jo's ability to create a well organised, relaxed and friendly atmosphere made Kooka's one of the most applauded country restaurant's in Western Australia. During their time at the helm Kooka's won numerous Gold Plate and RCA (Restaurant and Caterer's Association) awards and Iain's reputation as a chef resulted in invitations to judge the CIA's Chef of the Year Competition in 2000 and 2001. Kooka's History Framed by the Albany Justice and Police Complex, the old heritage-listed Kooka's building still stands today as the oldest two-story building from the early settlement days of Albany. Kooka's Restaurant is no longer but the passion and flair that made it famous lives on in Kooka's Catering. For many years Kooka's Restaurant was known as $quot;the place to dine$quot; in Albany. The team worked hard to make sure Kooka's was a place where guests experienced the best in food, 5 star service and a warm and friendly atmosphere. ![]() Kooka's won the prestigious Gold Plate Award for 'Best Unliscenced Dinning' three years in a row and was a finalist nine times. It also won an RCA (Restaurant and Caterer's Association) award for excellence for the Best Country Restaurant and was finalist in this category seven times. The restaurant was featured in many articles and, amongst others, appeared in The West Australian, Scoop Magazine, Australian Gormet Traveller, Sunday Times and The Lonely Planet Guide.
